Day 8: Glasgow - London

Got up this morning with a full breakfast courtesy of Joan. Very tasty and it is the best way to start any day.

Watched the Aussies win in the Olympic rowing then headed for the train to Glasgow and a day of Bag Pipes. The World Pipe Band Championships was on in Glasgow Green.

Watched a couple of bands perform then headed to the highland dancing. These guys and girls are amazing. It is a beautiful thing to watch. Elisha then checked out some of the stalls whilst I headed for the beer tent. Not so much a tent, more an extremely large marquee, approximately 100m long by 30m wide. Along with the usual selection of beer, there was a selection of whiskey. Caught up with Elisha to get a bite to eat and to see a bit more of the competition.

Trying to get a particular shot, I didn't realise the time. With only 10 minutes to catch our train, we had to rush (again) to the station where we managed to get onto the platform just as the train rolled in. Elisha let me know she wasn't happy about another couple of mile jog. Personally, I think it would have done her some good!!.

Had a final cup of tea and a slick of cake with Jim & Jean and made our way to the airport. Repacked our bags to safely stow all the alcohol and checked in. Seems to have worked as the bags came out of the baggage collection without any dripping.

Caught the Heathrow Connect train to Paddington then a £4.20 cab fair to the hotel. We arrived and were told our room is not available due to renovations. They had organised a room at a hotel in Barbican (on the other side of the city) for a night. For the inconvenience, there paid for our transfer (so they should) and promised to upgrade us to an Executive Suite for our remaining 3 nights in London.
