Bit of a mad rush this morning - having to pack and catch a taxi to get back to the original hotel. Had to pay for a continental breakfast only to have it all packed up within 10 minutes. Can’t say I was too impressed at £7.50 each.
Put the camera on charge whilst we rushed our breakfast as with all the running about, we forgot to charge it last night. Luckily, by the time we got back it was almost fully charged.
Caught the tube toCharing Cross so we could go to the Goddess Festival. The tube being the tube though, there was a power failure at Bond Street (the one we wanted to get to) causing us to take another 3 tube lines to Charing Cross instead of just 1.
Caught the main line to Canterbury West (at £21 each I might add) for a 1 hour 45 minute journey. Didn't arrive until way into the afternoon and then realised we didn't know where the festival was!
Walked down the road and through the medieval west gate into town. From there, it was a simple matter of asking a few of the locals for directions. Got in just as Damb (pronounced Dave - don’t ask me) the Bard was playing. It was he we really came to see and managed to catch the one song I wanted to hear - Green & Grey. It really is a beautiful song and told Damb this after his performance. Spent a bit of time talking to him after Elisha tried on some really beautiful pagan dresses.
Left the festival and headed towards Canterbury Cathedral. Walked through both old and new (relative term) and got some great photos of the ruins of which there were quite a few left.
Got back to the hotel and finally checked in. We were upgraded to a double executive suite. It is not as grand as it sounds - it is just a standard room with a desk!
Had dinner at the hotel restaurant. The kitchen had closed at that very moment, but the head waiter requested one of the chefs if they would make our meals and we were lucky he said yes and enjoyed beautiful roast lamb.
Went out for a cigarette and met a guy listening to some great music on his headphones. Spoke to him about the music and found that he had written & performed the music himself. The story of where he got his inspiration from is an extremely sad and touching one. His wife of only 2 months passed away in a road accident where he was the driver. They had known and loved each other for 10 years from the age of 11. He is a soul torn between grief for his wife and anger at himself.
We talked for a number of hours about life and music and really got to know each other quite well. I do hope he finds his road again. His music is popular inDubai , so I will look for it when we are there next.
