Up late this morning, so had to rush a little to get showered, packed and check out. Left the bags at the hotel so we were free to explore. Grabbed the car and headed towards The Royal Mile once more. Another full breakfast to tie us through the day and we were off.
Found a bagpipe shop Elisha had been looking for over the past 2 days, and they had some flyers for theMusical Instrument Museum . Found out the museum was open until 12:30 so we had 45 minutes to race across town and take a quick look.
We busted our guts and managed to walk it in 10 minutes only to find it closed. Not understanding what was going on, we re-read the flyer. The museum is actually 2 museums in 2 separate locations and it was the other location that closed at 12:30. The woodwind museum, the one Elisha was interested in, opened at 14:00. So after ruining our legs with the hurried walk, we had a drink and rest at the pub.
After a good rest, we walked around and found an Aussie pub. A bundy and coke later, headed back to the museum.
The collection at the museum was originally the collected by a single man and is enormous. Only a small fraction is ever on display at a time. There are some very rare instruments there including a contra-bass serpent (yes, that is an instrument name) nick-named the "anaconda". Stayed a little longer that we expected and by the time we got back to the hotel to collect our bags, it was getting late.
The trip out ofEdinburgh was significantly easier than the trip in. Princes Street is the A8, so we followed this, through peak hour traffic in Glasgow and on up to Balloch. Needed directions to get to Cardross so stopped in at the pub once again. After being translated 4 times, I simply nodded and called Jim to let him know where we were and that we were going to be a little late. Found our way to the Muirholm Hotel for dinner with Jim & Jean right on time and enjoyed catching up again.
Back to Jim's place for a cuppa and to go over some photos of both our and my cousin Martine's wedding.
