After breakfast, Elisha and I decided to try and find Billy. We headed off to Helensburgh and realised very quickly we were in the wrong town. Nothing was familiar. Decided Alexandria was our next destination.
Finally get to Alexandria. What a rabbit warren that was! The roads were packed full of cars. I've got no idea where they were all going!
Called a Colin Oliver I found in the phone book. As it turned out, out of the 2 Colin Olivers that live in the area, he was not the one I wanted. Went for a bit of a walk through the town when Elisha mentioned going to the newsagent to see if they had a phone book. They did and I looked over the names again.
Found an entry for an Oliver, at what sounded like the correct address, so we called the number - no answer. We drove to the address and were told by one of the neighbours that we had the correct address but that both Billy and Margaret had left on Thursday for a 9 day holiday. As an added bonus, all the children and grand children have also gone!
Realising our only hope to see Billy is when we come through Glasgow on the tour, we left for Dumbarton Castle.
This was the first time Elisha had been to the castle so it is something we were going to be doing anyway. Apart from some work being done on the French Prison, we saw all of the castle. Took quite a few photos and climbed all the way to the top of the rock before the clouds came in. Prior to that, it was quite warm - 22 degrees. As we were heading back towards the car, we felt a few drops of rain. By the time we got to the car, it was pouring.
Stopped by Morrisons supermarket for a late lunch of "Haggis, Neeps and Tatties" for me, and another full breakfast sans Haggis for Elisha.
Have come back to Gowanlea to change the camera battery before we attempt to contact Jim and let him know we cant make Wednesday for dinner.
Elisha went down for a lie down at about 18:00 and that was the end of her. I think she is still not used to the time zone, but it sounds like she is getting some sleep at least.
Needing to get some currency, I talked down to the Co-Op ATM. Neither this ATM nor the one further out of town would accept my card and with only £3 in my wallet, I left for the pub - "The Dog House" - great name.
Started talking to a couple of the guys and found out they know a cousin of mine - Scott Oliver. That got a few of them talking so even with only 1 pint, I was there for a while.
Came back to Gowanlea to find Elisha still asleep. No dinner tonight either.
