Day 17: Glosgow - Liverpool

Had no clock in our room at the hotel, so I kept waking up and had to get up to make sure we hadn't missed our wake up call. This might sound strange at first, but we had gulls and other birds calling and chirping at 3:15 in the morning, so I thought it was light and therefore, time to get up!

Got on the bus and fell asleep for an hour or so, along with half our fellow passengers, as soon as the bus got moving.

Stopped off at Gretna Green for a 30 minute break. Gretna Green has a tradition as a place where young couples go to Elope as the rules for marriage differ between England and Scotland. In Scotland, you can get married at the age of 16 without parental consent. This is actually quite a strange predicament, as although you can't get married at 16 in England, the marriage of two 16 year olds in Scotland is recognised in England.

Back on the bus for a little competition. We had to write down 10 body parts of 3 letters each. This may sound easy, but it was the additional rules that made it difficult.
- No Slang
- No Rude bits.
This made it very difficult. As it so happens, out of the 11 items we wrote down, only 7 were deemed acceptable (no I am not going to spell out what we put down).

Stopped at Grasmere for lunch, where it rained all over us. I'm starting to think the plane went through a time warp. Apart from a few days of sunshine, it has rained every bloody day on this holiday!.

Had a bite to eat, a quick look around and found William Wordworth's grave. He was a poet that had a rather strange relationship with his sister. I'm not going into the full story, suffice to say, his sister was so incensed on the news of his marriage, she wore the bridal gown the day before the wedding and moved in with him and his new bride.

Left Grasmere to take the M6 and were caught in a traffic jam for over 20 miles. Today is a bank holiday in England, so people have gone away for the long weekend. Well, they are all on this bloody road going home. Instead of travelling at 60 - 70 mph, we are at 30 - 40 mph.

Arrived at the Adelphi Hotel a little under an hour overdue, but still with plenty of time for dinner.

After dinner, with Elisha full of a cold and in bed, myself and a number of the ladies went out for a few drinks. Found a pub across from the hotel that had both karaoke and a live band happening. The place was absolutely heaving.

The Beatles convention is finishing up today after a 3 day party so everywhere you look, there are people now in their 50's & 60's dressed in clothes some 20 year olds wouldn't wear. It was definitely mutton dressed as lamb and was not a pretty sight.

The other ladies from the tour left me at about 22:00. Got to know the guys on the door and had a bit of fun with some drop kick. His girlfriend had caused a bit of trouble in the pub and the fight sort of spilled out onto the street. He then started on the bouncers and of course, the bouncers made an absolute fool of him in front on everyone and he didn't like this. So he kept coming back 4 or 5 times trying to cause trouble. Some people just never learn, but it was fun trying to teach him manners!
